and a Happy New Year!

A wish for you!

This is what happens when Clever Karen spends the morning at Pinterest, finding Chalkboard Pins and downloading new fonts!

I made this little greeting using a free chalkboard background download from Foolish Fire.  I pulled it into PrintShop2 as a background and added text with fancy fonts and dingbats in white.  Pretty easy to do!

You are welcome to download and use the image for your own personal use and share the link on Pinterest!

Easter Sunrise

Easter Sunrise from Karen Bosch on Vimeo.

I created this video using artwork that my first graders created in computer lab using Kidpix. Wishing everyone a most blessed Easter day.

Empty

empty

too much empty these days
shrunken paychecks and retirement accounts
jobs evaporated
store closing signs
offices for lease
neighborhood blocks with flecked with for sale signs
foreclosed houses with shaggy lawns and broken gutters

it leaves your soul feeling black and empty and fearful

but the only hope is in emptiness
an empty tomb carved out of impossible stone
reminds that by removing self power and plans
emptying hearts of all but trust
opens life again to
Easter power

Have a blessed Easter!

Blue Willow Easter Eggs

I blame my friend Sheri for being preoccupied all this afternoon with making these Easter eggs. She showed me this Easter project in Martha Stewart and said it looked something I would like to make. And actually I had all the "ingredients" for the project at home - eggs, paper napkins, and mod podge! It's a rare project that doesn't cost me extra $, so of course I had to try it before Easter arrived. I had some blue willow style napkins that I thought would work nicely and would coordinate with my obsession with blue and white.

First, get out a scissors and your bifocals - you will need them! Cut small designs out of the paper napkins. Since the background of the eggs is white and the background of my napkins were white, I didn't need to cut very close to the edge, I left a bit of a white border. The napkin will separate into layers - all you will use is the top layer.

Use a little Mod Podge to attach the napkin designs to the eggs. (The eggs had the insides blown out through little holes in the top and bottom, and were washed, and dried.) I tried attaching the napkins several ways - I think it was easiest to put the Mod Podge on the egg first and then attach the napkin pieces. A bit fussy but very simple!

After the pieces dry, give the entire egg another coat of modge to seal the edges down.

I can't believe how awesome these eggs look - you'd never know they were made out of paper napkins. And they photographed perfectly - here's a few more shots posted at Flickr.

Clever Karen at AOL Holidays!

A few weeks ago I was contacted by AOL Holidays, asking if they could use my picture of my map Easter eggs in a feature on Amazing Easter Eggs that they were doing. Today they sent the link to the webpage - if you click on the slideshow, my eggs are the 6th picture. Kinda cool! I'm always amazed at how others find discover my stuff on the internet! It's nice that my creativity no longer just happens in a vacuum but can be shared to a world wide audience. Below is a screen shot of what the page looks like:

Vintage Valentines

For the first five years of my life, my mom pasted all the cards that I received into this scrapbook. It is filled with cards sent at my birth, Christmas cards, cute little birthday cards for a little girl, and Valentines. Even a "We Missed You Week at Sunday School" card.

Here's a peak at some of the pages of Valentines:

A couple of years ago I scanned 6 of the Valentines and posted them on Flickr. They are my most popular images on Flickr and around this time of year the number of people viewing them goes way up! Yesterday 138 people checked out this Valentine which I blogged about last year. (It currently has had 5, 027 views.)

And this cute little card is in second place with 2,664 views.

Here's hoping you have a sweet Valentine's Day!!

Unexpected Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving turned out not to be what I had expected and planned. This morning as I was getting ready to pack my my car to head over the river and through the woods to spend the weekend with my family, I got a call from my Dad saying that everyone had come down with the stomach flu and that I better not make the trip. This is the first time in my life I have not spent Thanksgiving with my family.

So I unexpectedly have a free weekend. And 6 dozen or so homemade rolls and muffins (and no freezer space to store them)!

Actually, I was able to enjoy a meal with a friend's family this afternoon. And went out to a movie with a friend this evening. And I am looking forward to 3 unexpected days at home. I hope to get a jump on my Christmas decorating and even have some time to make some clever projects! And I'll likely eat some of those homemade rolls, too. I wish you all could help me out!

So it was not my traditional Thanksgiving. But it was a good Thanksgiving none the less. I am thankful for food and friends and God's many blessings.

Celebrating the Home of the Brave

I know I posted this quilt awhile back, but I thought I'd pull it out again to decorate for this Fourth of July. It is a scrappy quilt - made of various shades and colors, all the fabrics unique, none that exactly match, but blend together to a whole. Kind of like America!

Thankful today for freedom!
