I have one somewhat scrawny lilac bush in my yard that I tolerate just so I can enjoy that wonderful scent of lilacs for a week in the spring. I usually clip a bunch and stick them in an old blue green Ball canning jar. I have them sitting on the piano right now, and every time I walk by I can enjoy the aroma. I know you can't smell them, but hopefully can imagine as you look at the pictures.....
