Recycled Shutter Bench
Another confession - shhh, don't tell - I have been known to rescue "treasures" from the trash under the cover of night. There's something redemptive about restoring a cast off and making it into something pretty and useful. Please don't think less of me for doing it - I always wash my hands when I am done.
A few years ago I turned an old headboard, a shutter (I can't resist shutters), and some old leftover railroad timbers into a rustic bench for my garden. I can manage a saw, drill, and screwdriver with the best of them! I think the end result is pretty cute. It even is sturdy enough to sit on, however it's not very comfortable, so it serves more as decoration.
I even added a couple of rusty hinges that were left on some old timber from a gate to the bottom of the legs for a decorative twist!

Think less of you - geez, I'm envious! I'm still trying to work up the nerve to pick up stuff from the curb. This is a great example of how you can repurpose "junk." I'm still in the early stages - I just buy cheap stuff at rummage sales.
love this bench! you're so creative!
